BLUFFTON, OH (WLIO) - Allen County Veterans Services Commission is sharing some important information with local veterans over a cup of coffee.

Allen County Veterans Services Commission holds GI's & Joe event to meet with veterans

The Allen County Veterans Services Commission held their first GI's & Joe event at the Twisted Whisk in Bluffton on Wednesday morning. The event was started so members of the Allen County Veterans Services Commission could meet face-to-face with veterans in their hometowns rather than coming into their office. The veterans could ask questions, learn about the benefits they are entitled to, and even start the paperwork for veterans' claims.

"They may be entitled to VA compensation because they may have incurred an injury or disability or have one aggravated from their military service, and they may not realize it could be considered a VA disability," says Tamara Wilson, executive director of the Allen County Veterans Service Commission. "Sometimes people think, Oh well, that's no big deal; I already had that. But they don't realize that their service may have made it worse, and that is why they should come and see us, come talk to the veterans service office, and we can help guide them through that process."

Wilson says they are planning more GI's & Joe events in the future, but they do not have a date or location yet. If you have questions about veterans' benefits, you can come to the Allen County Veterans Services Commission office in the courthouse, located at 301 N Main Street, Lima, Ohio 45802.
