SOFTBALL

Fargo Shanley 7, Hankinson 5

FARGO — The Fargo Shanley Deacons scored five runs in the fifth inning and defeated the Hankinson Pirates in a non-conference showdown on Friday.

The Deacons held off Hankinson in the seventh after the Pirates scored three runs in the sixth. Shanley’s Alexa Gregg had a double and triple and finished with three hits and two RBI. Taelyn Card picked up the win, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and she struck out seven. Card also had two hits and drove in three run. Hailey Dingmann also had two hits and Liz Biver walked twice.

Hankinson’s Adeline Prochnow doubled in a three-hit game and drove in two runners. Kylee Falk had two hits including a double. Kirstan Loewen pitched all seven innings for the Pirates and struck out 17.

West Fargo 19, Fargo South 2

FARGO — The West Fargo Packers scored 11 runs in the second inning and cruised past Fargo South in Eastern Dakota Conference action on Friday.

The Packers had 18 hits in the game. Grace Vetter drove in five runners in a three-hit performance. Katelyn Kackman and Courtney Docktor also had three hits. Grace Wehri and Aubrey Finn combined for a one-hitter. Wehri allowed two runs with eight strikeouts in three innings of work. Finn closed out the game with five strikeouts.

Katelyn Erickson had the lone hit for the Bruins. Mea Nylander walked twice and had an RBI.

BASEBALL

Fargo Shanley 7-2, Bismarck Legacy 6-0

BISMARCK — Fargo Shanley swept Bismarck Legacy in non-conference play on Friday night.

Shanley led 6-3 after five innings and tacked on another run in the seventh. Legacy rallied in the seventh to score three runs but its rally stalled.

Deacons catcher Adam Leininger had three hits including a double. Landon Meier had two hits and Jordan Leininger drove in two runners. Landon Hale earned the win on the mound with 2-1/3 innings of relief and three strikeouts. Legacy’s Marcus Butts had four hits and two RBIs. Lucas Vasey and Drew Beasley both had two hits.

In the three-inning second game, the Deacons scored runs in the second and third innings. Shanley’s Adam Leininger, Hale and Carson Johnson all had hits. Sam Ovsak fired two innings, allowing two hits and striking out three. The Sabers’ Butts and Ben Watson both had two hits.

Fargo Oak Grove 19-6, Enderlin 8-1

ENDERLIN — Fargo Oak Grove swept Enderlin in a Region 1 double-header on Friday.

In the first game, the Grovers’ Greyson Docktor was 2 for 5 with a three-run inside-the-park home run and he finished with six RBIs. Foster Lord had a hit and three RBIs, Lincoln Machayya and Jacob Ring both had three hits and an RBI and Noah Meidinger had three hits. Docktor also got the win, allowing three earned runs on three hits in 4-1/3 innings while striking out eight. Ring went 2-2/3 innings in relief, allowing an earned run on one hit and striking out six.

In the second game, Oak Grove’s four-run fourth inning was the highlight. The Grovers’ Zach Winter tripled and he also pitched three innings, allowing two hits and striking out six. Oliver Hegvik allowed one run on one hit with three strikeouts to complete the game. Carter Wendelbo and Benton Nicholas both knocked in two runners. Enderlin’s Karson Gruba, Maverick Sandvig and Hunter Storhaug both had hits.

Border Battle

Fargo North drops Border Battle opener

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Sioux Falls O’Gorman scored six runs in the fifth inning and held off Fargo North for an 11-9 win in the Spartans’ first Border Battle game on Friday.

North led 6-3 through three innings but O’Gorman scored a run in the fourth and six in the fifth to take a 10-6 lead. The Spartans answered with three runs in the sixth to make it a one-run deficit but O’Gorman added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

North’s Charlie Kalbrenner and Jonah DeJong both had hits and drove in two runs and Caleb Briggeman was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Fargo North played Brandon Valley (S.D.) in a game not completed by press time.

West Fargo takes opener, falls in nightcap

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The West Fargo Packers split their first two matchups in the ND/SD Border Battle at Sanford Sports Complex.

West Fargo won its first game 10-8 over Brandon Valley (S.D.). The Packers built a 9-2 lead through four innings and held off Brandon Valley’s late surge.

Seth Wigestrand doubled twice and drove in two runs and Luke Finn had a hit and two RBIs. Brady Medina hit a solo home run and Brody Medina doubled. Noah Betker drove in two runs.

The Tea Titans mustered only one hit, but the Packers pitching staff issued 11 walks to lift the Titans to a 5-3 victory. Ethan Vis had Tea’s lone hit. Mason Schramm and Carter Turek walked twice. The Packers totaled four hits and Brody Medina singled with two walks.

WF Horace picks up two wins in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — West Fargo Horace earned a pair of wins in the ND/SD Border Battle on Friday at Sanford Sports Complex.

Horace defeated Sioux Falls Christian 10-0 in the Hawks’ first game on Friday.

Cooper Fuchs was 3 for 4 with three runs batted in and Jaxon Narum was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Horace pitchers Jett Collins and Austin Ohleen teamed up on a one-hitter. Collins went four innings to get the win, allowing the lone hit, walking two and striking out six. Ohleen pitched two no-hit innings, walking two and striking out three.

The Hawks scored all their runs in the fourth inning and fended off a Sioux Falls Roosevelt rally to win 9-6 in the second game. Cason Borchardt pinged a three-run triple into center field in the fourth. Evan Krogen and Ohleen both had two hits and Brody Strahm doubled. Roosevelt’s Brock Ades had three hits and drove in two runs. Jacob Mongar and Noah Verdoorn both doubled.

WF Sheyenne combines for no-hitter in rout

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — West Fargo Sheyenne’s Caleb Duerr and Blake Larson combined for a five inning, no-hitter to cruise through Sioux Falls Washington 14-2 on Friday in the ND/SD Border Battle at Sanford Sports Complex.

Duerr fired three scoreless innings with six strikeouts on the mound and knocked three RBI at the plate. Larson allowed two runs without a hit in two innings of relief. James Buffington led the Mustangs with a 3 for 3 and two RBI performance. Jaxon Zavaldi and Kaden Olson each had two hits. Sheyenne totaled 12 hits.

The Warriors’ Dylan Barck walked twice and Brekken Biteler had the lone Washington RBI.

In the second game, Sheyenne romped over Sioux Falls Christian 10-0, scoring seven of its runs in the fourth inning. Jackson Glienke doubled and Tate Herrmann tripled. Both players had two hits. Braxton Hoard earned the win and fired three hitless innings with six strikeouts. The Charger’s Jacob Sanderson and Tate Connell both had hits.
