Purdue Caps Regular Season in Illinois

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- Purdue travels to Illinois for the final regular season weekend of the 2024 season.

In its final home weekend, the Boilers split matches against Wisconsin and No. 62 Nebraska. Friday night was a 4-2 clinch victory over the Badgers. Three Boilermakers picked up wins over Wisconsin with Mujtaba Ali-Khan securing a point due to a retired match at No. 6. 

Stefan Simeunovic went unbeaten at No. 1 and won four of the five sets he played. The freshman has been on a tear since Purdue played at Michigan State. He opened up his three-match win streak with his first ranked win against then-No. 41 Ronald Hohmann. Since the start of April, Simeunovic is unbeaten in completed singles matches.

SCOUTING No. 26 ILLINOIS:
The Fighting Illini are on a four-match win streak after starting 1-3 in conference play. In its current win streak, Illinois is outscoring opponents 22-3.

The Illini have a total of three ranked singles players and a pair of ranked doubles teams in this week's ITA Tennis Rankings. No. 25 Karlis Ozolins, No. 41 Hunter Heck and No. 98 Kenta Miyoshi are a combined 35-15 in dual matches this spring. 

Miyoshi owns a team-high 13 wins with 11 coming at positions 3 and 4. He is the only Illinois player unbeaten in conference play at 5-0. All 10 of Ozolins's wins have come in the top two singles spots.

No. 6 Hunter Heck/Karlis Ozolins are 10-3 in dual matches this spring. The duo is 8-1 at doubles No. 2.

Purdue is 11-95-1 all-time against the Illini. The last Boilermaker win came on March 1, 2017, when Purdue clinched a 4-3 victory in West Lafayette.

SCOUTING No. 69 NORTHWESTERN:
Despite an 8-16 record, Northwestern has faced 12 ranked opponents this season, including five in Big Ten play. 

Before its regular season finale matchup with Purdue, the Wildcats will take on No. 70 Indiana on Friday, April 19.

Northwestern is repping one ranked doubles team in No. 50 Felix Nordby/Gleb Blekher.

The Boilers are 22-73-2 all-time against the Wildcats. Purdue last defeated Northwestern in a 4-3 neutral-court matchup in Ann Arbor back in April 2019.
