CHETEK, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – One year ago today (4/8/24), Two Barron County police officers were killed in the line of duty. Chetek Officer Emily Breidenbach and Cameron Officer Hunter Scheel were shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop.

This afternoon, a memorial for Officer Breidenbach was unveiled outside the Chetek Police Department. Friends, family and law enforcement came out to honor Officer Breidenbach. She was remembered for her good spirit and moments like dancing with kids in the community.

The memorial is something Police Chief Ron Ambrozaitis says is well thought out, from its tear shape to the engraved inscription, “I wish I had something to do with that. That actually came from one of my officers, Ryan. I don’t know where he got it, and I said that’s about as fitting as it can get.”

Officials say Hunter Scheel’s family is taking the day to remember him in private. Both will be honored in DC as part of National Police Week. Their names will be a part of a memorial.
