The family of a Portland Public Schools student says employees of both the district and a Multnomah County-sponsored after-school program operated by nonprofit Latino Network failed to protect her from being sexually assaulted at age 9 by four fellow students.

Late last month, the family filed a lawsuit in Multnomah County Circuit Court seeking up to $9 million in damages, on grounds including negligence, lack of oversight and failure to protect a vulnerable person from abuse.
