Two men arrested for theft of a spare wheel in Sunnyside

Lyttelton police and E2 Security arrested two in a joint operation in Sunnyside on Thursday, April 18.
Warrant Officer Duane Lightfoot said acting on tip-off about a vehicle involved in the theft of a spare wheel at Femina hospital, the team quickly identified the suspected silver Toyota Etios in Lyttelton.
“Immediately, the team sprang into action and executed a tactical takedown,” he said.
He said two people were arrested before the team found out that a spare wheel had already been sold.
He said the tools suspected to have been used in the crime were found hidden in the backseat.
“The two face charges of possession of car-breaking implements and theft,” he said.
Lightfoot added that an investigation to find out if the vehicle had been used in committing another crime will commence, and if positive, the Toyota will be forfeited the state.
