A man died after setting fire to a house during a standoff early Friday morning, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies responded to a domestic violence call to a neighborhood on the 7300 block of Arleta Court near Highway 99 around midnight. Six people, including the victim, were evacuated from a duplex, the sheriff's office said.
A man who stayed inside barricaded himself inside, the sheriff's office said. Deputies negotiated with the man for about an hour when communications broke down and the man lit the house on fire.
Deputies broke windows but were unable to remove the man from the burning building, the sheriff's office said. Firefighters arrived and were able to pull the unconscious man out before 2 a.m. They performed CPR and took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said.
It is unknown how the man started the fire.
The domestic violence victim had minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
