Signing up for an account at an online casino is a quick and simple process. Use our links above to reach the sites’ web pages and/or download the real money casino app from the online casino. From there, you can follow the steps for registering an account. This usually takes only a couple of minutes to complete.

You’ll have to provide some personal information, including your full name, email address, physical address, phone number, date of birth, and last four digits of your Social Security number. When registering, look for a prompt to enter a bonus code; doing so will ensure you receive any welcome offer.

You don’t have to deposit into your account right away, but you will need to eventually in order to play the real money blackjack games.

  • Click “Cashier.”
  • Choose “Deposit” and look through the available methods.
  • Pick the deposit method most suitable to you. Then, follow the instructions for sharing the needed information (e.g., your bank or PayPal info).

Typically, the money will show up in your account immediately, and you can start playing real money blackjack right away.

Real money online blackjack vs. free online blackjack

Playing real money online blackjack can be great fun, providing the same excitement as playing live in a casino.

One big part of that excitement is the chance to win cash as you play, but unlike other gambling games like roulette or slots that are pure luck, blackjack requires some skill if you want to increase your chances of winning.

The best online casinos often offer free online blackjack games. Sites like DraftKings, Golden Nugget, and others have “demo” versions of their blackjack games you can play for free. Sometimes, you don’t even have to register an account at the sites to play these free online blackjack games.

The free demo games can be great for a couple of reasons. For one, they play exactly like their real money counterparts, which means you can get a feel for the software and how the games look and feel before risking any of your funds.

Also, you can practice your blackjack strategy on the games, making them a great educational tool, too.

Since you are only playing these free games with “play money,” you cannot win any real money on them. But you can’t lose any, either. If you lose all of your play money, you can always restart the demo game and get a fresh stack.

Real money online blackjack bonuses and promotions

Speaking of playing free online blackjack, some sites have welcome offers that include no deposit casino bonuses. With these promos, you receive site credit right away with which to try out the games, including blackjack.

  • Bonuses and promotions: Sites offer no deposit bonuses, deposit match bonuses, reload bonuses, bet-and-get bonuses, refer-a-friend bonuses, and other promotions such as prize drawings that award site credit you can use to play blackjack.
  • Loyalty rewards programs: Sites also often have loyalty programs that reward players with points as they play. Later, you can redeem those points for free play and other benefits.

While there are often slot-specific bonuses and promos offering free spins and the like, there usually aren’t blackjack-specific bonuses or promos at online casinos. That said, all the best online casino bonuses and other rewards offered can usually be used for blackjack.

Rules for real money online blackjack

Standard blackjack games online play similarly to live blackjack games, although each casino and, indeed, each variant might have its own special rules.

For many of the games listed above, special side bets have their own pay tables. Some involve other rules that change the order of play, such as Blackjack Xchange in which you can “buy” or “sell” cards from your hand, or Zappit Blackjack in which you can trade in your hand for two new cards in some cases.

Among the rules for real money online blackjack, two in particular are worth noting. Before you start playing, make a note of whether…

  • the payout for being dealt a natural blackjack is 3-to-2 or 6-to-5;
  • the dealer hits or stays on a “soft 17.”

A natural blackjack occurs when you are dealt two cards totaling 21. Most online casinos will pay you 3-to-2 when you make blackjack (e.g., if you bet $10, you win $15). That’s better than simply doubling your money, which is the case when you win otherwise. Sometimes, the payout is only 6-to-5 (e.g., if you bet $10, you win $12), which is less advantageous for the player.

When it comes to how the dealer plays, all casinos make the dealer hit with 16 or less and stand with 18 or more. When the dealer gets 17, though, the rules can differ. Some casinos have the dealer always stand on 17. Most, however, require the dealer to hit on a “soft 17″ which is when the hand adds up to 17 but contains an ace (which can be counted as 1 or 11).

Hitting on soft 17 is better for the house, increasing the house edge slightly. Thus, if you can find a game where the dealer always stands on 17, that’s good. But you’ll notice most online blackjack games have the dealer hit on a soft 17.

FAQ about real money online blackjack

What are the minimum/maximum bets at real money online blackjack tables?

As discussed above, you’ll find most sites allow you to play real money online blackjack for a wide range of stakes. In some cases, the minimum bets go as low as $0.10, which is certainly something you won’t see in a live casino. Meanwhile, we’ve seen maximum bets for real money blackjack go as high as $30,000 for certain variants.

What are the differences between single-deck and multi-deck blackjack?

Above, we wrote about single-hand and multi-hand blackjack, which refers to how many hands you can play at one time. You’ll also sometimes see a distinction made between single-deck and multi-deck blackjack. That refers to how many decks are in the “shoe” from which blackjack hands are dealt, which can range from just one up to six or eight. The fewer decks being used, the better it is for the player. The house edge is the smallest for a single deck and goes up slightly as more decks are employed.

Which real money blackjack game has the lowest house edge?

If you play basic blackjack strategy and always choose correctly when deciding whether to hit, stand, double down, split, or surrender, you can reduce the house edge in blackjack to less than 1%. There are a couple of important points to add here regarding the rules and different blackjack variants and their effect on the house edge.

First, you’ll find most real money online blackjack games pay 3-to-2 if you make a “natural” blackjack (your first two cards add up to 21). Some games only pay 6-to-5 for blackjack, which is a smaller payout that increases the house edge. Always choose 3-to-2 blackjack games over 6-to-5 ones if you can.

Second, as a general rule, the many side bets you’ll encounter in online blackjack games have a much greater house edge than does the regular game. Going for that 777-to-1 payout in 777 Blazing Blackjack might be fun. But when you make that bet, keep in mind that since you lose it most of the time, it increases the overall house edge significantly.

Should you ever buy insurance in blackjack?

In blackjack, when the dealer is showing an ace for an up card, you will sometimes have the option to buy insurance. That means making a side bet, usually worth half your original bet, that the dealer will have a card worth 10 underneath and have blackjack. The side bet pays 2-to-1, which means you’ll essentially break even if the dealer does have 21 and you lose.

Generally speaking, buying insurance is considered a losing bet, and most seasoned players avoid doing so. It is another example of a side bet in which the house edge is significantly higher than for the base gameplay.
