A man suspected of shooting a couple in a tunnel beneath Interstate 5 on April 7 has been arrested, the California Highway Patrol said on Thursday.
Officials said the shooting left 41-year-old Preston Roy dead and his wife severely injured. Both victims are unhoused.
Officers arrested 63-year-old John Gavino on Tuesday in Watsonville for the shooting.
The shooting happened in the tunnel near the south end of Front Street, adjacent to Miller Regional Park, around 11 a.m.
CHP said the area where the homicide happened is known to be inhabited by several residents.
Gavino is charged with murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Sacramento County jail.
