Colorado Springs police are investigating the deaths of a 48-year-old man and 7-year-old boy after responding to a shooting call on the north side of the city Friday.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office identified Christopher Rael as the man who died of a gunshot wound at a home in the area of 3100 Lange Terrace, near Dublin and Union boulevards, according to a Monday news release. Rael's death is being investigated as a suicide, police said.

The boy also died of a gunshot wound and his death is being investigated as a homicide, according to police.

The boy's name has not been released per state law protecting the identity of minors. Police said in the news release that the boy and Rael "were known to each other." A CSPD spokesperson confirmed that Rael was the suspect in the boy's death.

According to police, this is the 10th homicide in Colorado Springs this year.
