NORTH LIMA, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – On Friday, April 12, 2024, Margrit M. Galano, 89, passed away at Assumption Village.

Born on March 9, 1935, in Dortmund, Germany, an only child. She lost both of her parents before the age of three and was raised by her grandparents and two aunts.

Margrit came to the U.S. at the age of 15 on the Queen Mary with her grandfather, Fredrich Schmidt.

She graduated from Union High School in New Castle.

Her early career led her to teach dance at the Arthur Murray studio and sell paints at Sherwin-Williams. She later transitioned to becoming a bookkeeper for NEPCO, Galano Motors and various auto dealerships and restaurants.

It was during the purchase of her first car that Margrit met her former husband, Samuel Anthony Galano. In August of 1958, they exchanged vows and embarked on a journey together.

At the age of 26, Margrit welcomed her only child, Cynthia Lynn Stackhouse, into the world. She also embraced Samuel’s children, Sandra Lang and Samuel Alan (Molly) Galano as her own.

Margrit’s interests were diverse and fulfilling. She was a proud member of the Saxon Club for many years and had been part of the Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church of New Castle. In her youth, she found joy in dancing and being near the water, finding solace in its tranquil embrace.

She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Alexis (Scott) Stackhouse Stultz, Eric (Michelle) Lang, Chelsea (Tyler) Tennyson and Sammy Galano and her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Addison, Charlotte and Oliver.

She was also preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Robert Stackhouse and Eric Lang, Sr.

A visitation to honor Margrit’s life will be held at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr’s Centre Drive on Tuesday, April 16 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 4:00 p.m.
