A 58-year-old Tracy man died Friday morning after his car was hit by an ACE commuter train, California Highway Patrol said. The crash occurred around 8 a.m. close to the intersection of South Chrisman and West Bates roads south of Tracy near Lyoth. The train was traveling westbound at about 70 mph and hit the passenger side of the car traveling northward. For some unknown reason, the car's driver passed through the down-crossing arms, which were functioning properly at the time, and went directly into the path of the oncoming train. The train had 68 passengers on board and it received major damage.The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
