Cathedral Drive undergoing construction to improve concrete pavement
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Since April 1, Cathedral Drive in Rapid City has seen plenty of excavators and trucks. The area is currently undergoing construction for repair and replacement of concrete panels.
Due to the construction, Cathedral Drive only has one lane open on both sides of the street between Mount Rushmore Road and 5th Street.
It’s a concrete pavement project that includes repairing concrete spall, replacing panels, and pavement joint resealing.
The construction was approved by the city last December, granting Tru-Form Construction more than $340,000 to begin the project.
Jeffrey Crocker says the construction is cost-efficient compared to other alternatives.
”We’re going to be doing basically these small repairs that we call and this is significantly less expensive and it has much less impact on the traveling public. Because if we were to do a full reconstruction, we may have to close the entire street,” he said
Cathedral Drive construction updates can be found at https://www.rcgov.org/departments/public-works/engineering-services/rapid-city-road-closures-382.html. The project is expected to be completed by May 31.
