The House Oversight Committee will hear an update on the service that provides non-emergency medical transportation to the elderly and Medicaid patients on Wednesday.

Medicaid director Kristin Pono Sousa will present on the status of medical transportation for non-emergencies in Rhode Island.

Service to the state began on a rocky note with many complaints that drivers were either delayed or never showed up.

In one case, an MTM subcontractor was charged with a DUI in a fatal crash that killed a 77-year-old Coventry resident in December 2021.

A representative of MTM is scheduled to address the committee.
