Nuneaton Poundland shoppers were left fuming after being stuck in queues at the store. At one point, the line of disgruntled shoppers snaked towards the back of the shop in Market Place.

One said: "It is ridiculous - it will stop people from coming in," while some got so fed up that they abandoned their shopping and simply left the store. Others were heard threatening to boycott going in again.

It follows a move to remove all of the self-service tills that were located at the front of the store. Now shoppers have to be served by staff.

But this caused queues at the shop on Wednesday, April 3, and there are calls for the self-service tills to be reinstalled. Poundland previously explained the reason why customers can no longer scan their own items and pay for them.

The national firm said the tills were removed as part of a major refit as the local branch was chosen as one of 150 across the country to be part of 'Project Evo'. It has paved the way for more clothing to be on offer as well as new chillers.

But the loss of the self-service tills has been causing queuing inside. CoventryLive has contacted the firm about the situation.

They said: "We’re grateful for the feedback. It’s clear that customers have appreciated the refurbishment of the Nuneaton store as we’ve expanded our ranges

"That customer response has led to some peak-hour queues that are a little longer than we’d like but we’re working hard to make sure everyone gets the service they expect. We’re making sure that all our till points are available and more colleagues working, especially in those peak hours.

"It goes without saying that we’ll keep things under review to make sure we’re serving customers as quickly and efficiently as we can. We’re grateful for the hard work of colleagues as they welcome customers to our revamped store.
