Car Crash: Columbia Road

Police went to the Norfolk Southern Railway tracks where a train hit a car at 9:20 p.m. April 13. A man drove a car onto the tracks. He then ran away from it leaving his date – and the car - behind. The woman ran out of the car before a train hit it. She was the car’s owner. The car was now just west of the Brookside Drive crossing. Police were with the train conductor and the car. The woman gave a description of the man and his name to police. All railroad traffic was stopped. The railway’s police were contacted. A second tow truck was called, which had specialized equipment to handle the car that was on the tracks. The car was removed, and the train continued on its way.

Traffic stop: West Road

An officer at 8:05 a.m. April 11 cited a driver for speeding. She was not happy about the stop. She threw her license and ticket out of the car window. She then exited her car and started arguing. The officer told her she could go to court if she did not agree with the ticket. She later drove to the police station to discuss the ticket.

Utility: Usher Road

Police received a call April 12 a tree fell and hit a wire. It was blocking half of Usher Road. The wire was not sparking or arcing. A car was not involved in the incident. The city’s service department was advised about the tree. The homeowner, however, was trying to fix the issue. An officer went to the scene and noted the wire appeared to be a cable line. The homeowner cut up the tree and placed it in his yard. The service department was told to disregard the call since the obstruction in the roadway was removed.

Traffic device: Sprague and Columbia roads

Two motorists called police April 12 about a traffic signal device that broke in half. Its lower portion was hanging over the roadway. Police contacted the proper service company that planned to cut the signal down and return at a later time to repair it.

Traffic stop: Columbia Road

Police stopped a car near Sprague Road April 13. They received permission to search the car. They did not find any drug paraphernalia inside. The driver was cited for having expired plates.

Found property: Bagley Road

Police received a call April 14 about a wheelchair that was sitting in the grass. The caller said it was unusual since there was no one was in that area. Police picked up the wheelchair and took it to the station.

Traffic stop: Cook Road

An officer April 14 cited a motorist for speeding near Clark Street.

Animal bite: Falls Glen Drive

A resident called police April 16 about a neighbor’s dog that bit her April 15. She told them she went to an emergency room. She now wanted the incident documented. An officer spoke with the dog’s owner, who later went to the police station.

Car crash: Locust Drive

A school bus and mail truck crashed at 4 p.m. April 16. There were no injuries.

Parking complaint: Lakeview Drive

An officer cited two cars between 4 and 4:03 a.m. Dec. 17 for illegally parking overnight.

Theft: West Northwood Drive

A resident went to the police station April 17 to report identification theft and credit card fraud.
