STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A study recently ranked the top 20 most expensive colleges and universities across the United States, and five of the schools are located in New York.

The study was conducted by The College Investor, a website dedicated to “investing and personal finance for millenials.” Researchers used each school’s published tuition and fees for one year to develop the ranking.

Highlights from the study are below.

Franklin & Marshall College, which is located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is at the top of the list, with tuition at $65,652, while New York City’s Barnard College is at No. 20 in the ranking, with tuition at $60,478.

Columbia University, also located in New York City, sits at No. 2, with annual tuition costing $65,524. The school also made a recent ranking of top “dream colleges” in the United States.

At No. 4, Vassar College, in Poughkeepsie, New York, charges $63,840 for tuition.

Sarah Lawrence College, located just outside New York City in Yonkers, sits at No. 15, with an annual tuition of $60,700.

New York’s University of Rochester is No. 17 in the ranking, with tuition at $60,550.

Each college in the ranking charges over $60,000 per year, which adds up to more than $240,000 for all four years, the study reported. The numbers in the study do not include room, board and other expenses such as textbooks.

The College Investor stated that while these sticker prices may seem daunting, only 38% of undergraduate students pay full price.
