BARCS waiving adoption fees for animals during ‘Spring Fling Mega Adopt-a-Thon’

The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter will waive adoption fees for all its animals during an event Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.

BARCS, in partnership with the Maryland SPCA, Baltimore Humane Society and Baltimore County Animal Services, will host the “Spring Fling Mega Adopt-a-Thon.” It is the largest adoption event in the Baltimore area and surrounding counties.

“With overcrowded animal shelters and soaring demand, the need to find loving homes for these vulnerable pets is always important,” Mike Rogers, Maryland Jockey Club Interim President said in a news release. “BARCS is a committed non-profit shelter providing refuge and care to all animals within Baltimore City. Teaming up with BARCS, three other shelters will also participate, making this a truly collaborative effort.”

Adoptions are on a first come, first served basis, and families are able to bring home their pets the day of the event. Cat carriers, leashes and collars will be available for purchase.

Adopters must be at least 18 and are required to bring a valid photo ID and proof of current address. Adoption counselors from each shelter will provide thorough instructions about acclimating new pets to homes with existing pets.

The Spring Fling Mega Adopt-a-Thon will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the second-floor grandstand and Triple Crown Room of the Pimlico Race Course. The address is 5201 Park Heights Avenue.
