Prince Harry has taken a major step in cutting ties with the UK and one expert believes it says a lot about his relationship with the Royal Family.

The Duke of Sussex has officially switched his formal residential status from the UK to the US in paperwork relating to his sustainable travel initiative, Travalyst. When the project was set up four years ago, Harry's place of residence was originally listed on Companies House as being in the UK.

However, a new filing states his "new country/state usually resident" is the US. Relationship expert Louella Alderson suggested this shows Harry's royal relationships are no longer a priority.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, she said: "Prince Harry's decision to officially declare the US as his new country of residence feels like a significant step in his distance from the Royal Family and his British roots. While Harry has been living in the US for four years, declaring it as his new usual residence officially feels like a subtle but sure way of establishing boundaries and creating a new identity separate from his royal duties.

"Harry's relationships with his family are already strained and this step sends them a message that he is not planning to return to the UK anytime soon, if at all." Louella added: "His relationships with the Royal Family do not appear to be a priority for Harry."

Her comments come after Harry previously spoke about having his own family in America. During an interview with Good Morning America, he spoke about the possibility of returning to the UK.

"My family and my life in California is as it is. I have got other trips planned. That would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so you know, I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can," Harry said.

In Harry's new residential status filing, the move has been backdated to June 29, 2023. This date is very significant as it's one of the last days he and Meghan Markle had access to their old UK home of Frogmore Cottage.

Last March it was revealed King Charles had asked the Sussexes to vacate Frogmore Cottage, which the late Queen had gifted to them after their wedding in 2018. A spokesperson for the couple said at the time: "We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage."

Harry's latest move comes after he previously spoke about his plans to become an American citizen. During his chat with GMA, Harry said he has considered becoming a US citizen but did not confirm whether or when he would apply.

Host Will Reeve asked: "Do you feel American?" Harry responded: "Do I feel American? No... I don't know how I feel." The host then went on to ask Harry what would stop him from applying for American citizenship.

He replied: "I have no idea. I'm here standing next to these guys. The American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind, but certainly not something that is a priority for me right now."
