The polls are open!

It's time to vote for the Volusia-Flagler Athlete of the Week for the week of April 15-20. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

Last week, Spruce Creek flag football player Chloe Waldo took home the honors, claiming 32% of the votes.

The News-Journal gathers nominees from scores and stats emailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to cvinel@gannett.com.

Voting will close at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Baseball

Alek Rentas, Pine Ridge: The senior had four hits and two RBIs in five at-bats during a win over Astronaut. He also scored two runs.

Jeremy Wright, DeLand: Wright pitched the entirety of the Bulldogs' 2-0 shutout of Spruce Creek. He struck out nine batters and walked just one.

Flag football

Emma Corr, New Smyrna Beach: The junior accounted for 108 passing yards, 86 rushing yards, seven flag pulls and both of the Barracudas' touchdowns in their region quarterfinals victory over Spruce Creek.

Softball

Kyra McLin, Seabreeze: The junior helped the Sandcrabs snap a 10-game losing streak, picking up three hits in four at-bats, driving in two runs and scoring two more against Father Lopez.

Aurielle Reavis, Atlantic: In 11 at-bats during wins over Pine Ridge and Seabreeze, the senior tallied seven hits (three homers) and six RBIs.

Tennis

Demario Dawkins, Spruce Creek: The senior punched his ticket to the state tournament with a District 2-4A title in No. 1 doubles with Zane Ensminger. They are 14-1 this season.

Ofelia Stout, Father Lopez: The sophomore won the No. 1 singles championship in District 4-1A, securing a state tournament spot.

Track and field

Olivia Gaines, Flagler Palm Coast: The senior won the long jump (17 feet, 7.75 inches) at the Thursday Night Spikes event. Gaines also finished seventh in the 100-meter dash.

Weightlifting

Zachary Caron, Spruce Creek: The senior captured a 3A state title with a 650 Olympic score (290-pound snatch, 360 clean and jerk).

Ryan Geary, New Smyrna Beach: Geary won the 2A traditional championship for his 154-pound weight class at the state meet. He sealed the victory with a 345-pound bench press.

Isaiah McCloud, New Smyrna Beach: At 219 pounds, the junior secured the 2A traditional championship with a 240-pound snatch, 290-pound clean and jerk and 430-pound bench press during the state meet.

Elijah Walker, Mainland: The senior paced the heavyweight division, clinching the 2A traditional title with lifts of 315 pounds in the clean and jerk and 440 pounds on the bench press.
