A 31-year-old Bridgeport man has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm, officials said.

Kimani Williams, who is a convicted felon, appeared in court in Hartford on Tuesday and was sentenced to 27 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

Court records show that officers from the Bridgeport Police Department pulled over a vehicle Williams was riding in on April 7, 2022, after obtaining a search warrant for Williams, his vehicle and his home, officials said.

As officers removed Williams from the vehicle, a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic Smith and Wesson pistol fell to the ground, according to court records.

Officers then reportedly found another two handguns, both of which were loaded, in the vehicle’s glove box, court records show.

Williams was arrested that day and has been in custody since.

Williams has prior felony convictions from Connecticut and New York for criminal possession of a weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon and assault of public safety or emergency personnel, according to officials. Since he is a convicted felon, it is illegal for him to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
