LASTING IMPACT. WHEN THE GREATER GERMANTOWN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION PUT THEIR HEADS TOGETHER ABOUT THEIR VERY FIRST TO EAT DRINK GERMANTOWN, THEY KNEW THEY WANTED TO INCLUDE THE BEST FOOD AND DRINKS THE NEIGHBORHOOD HAD TO OFFER. THAT WAS THE SIMPLE PART. THE HARD PART WAS CREATING A LEGACY. ASSOCIATION BOARD MEMBER JOHN RONEN EXPLAINS HOW THEY WANT TO DO IT. WE WONDERED AS PART OF THIS WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE IF GERMANTOWN, WHICH IS KIND OF A QUIRKY, UNIQUE NEIGHBORHOOD, WERE TO BE TURNED INTO COCKTAIL FORM. THE CALL WENT OUT TO AREA BARS TO CREATE A COCKTAIL THAT EMBODIES GERMANTOWN AND ITS SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS. THE ONLY RULE THE DRINK HAD TO INCLUDE CAMPARI. THE LEAD SPONSOR OF THE EVENT, EIGHT DIFFERENT BARS HAVE STEPPED UP. ONE OF THEM IS THE SOUTH SHELBY STREET COCKTAIL BAR. THE CANARY CLUB CO-OWNERS, SARAH HITE, SAYS THEY HAVE A PLAN. IT IS CALLED THE CLUB HOUSE. UM, IT WILL TAKE ON THE CANARY CLUB AND THEN THE GERMAN SPELLING OF HOUSE ON THURSDAY. THOSE EIGHT BARS WILL BE AMONG THE NEARLY TWO DOZEN AREA BARS, RESTAURANTS AND BREWERIES REPRESENTED AT EAT DRINK GERMANTOWN AT GERMANTOWN GABLES. FOR THOSE LIKE JOHN, WHO HELPED COME UP WITH THE VERY IDEA, THE ECLECTIC NATURE OF THE GERMANTOWN AREA COULD LEAD TO SOME WILD RECIPES. A LOT OF THE TIMES, THE REASON THAT YOU END UP AS PART OF THIS COMMUNITY IS JUST BECAUSE IT’S WHERE YOU FOUND YOURSELF, AND IT’S THE PEOPLE YOU SURROUNDED YOURSELF WITH. ALL THE BUSINESSES DEFINITELY DO HAVE A SIMILAR ETHOS. NOW, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOTE ON THE GERMANTOWN AND WHAT EXACTLY IT’S GOING TO BE, YOU CAN HEAD TO OUR WEBSITE, WLKY.COM.
