NOW. DOZENS SPENT THEIR SATURDAY REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF FIVE YEAR OLD MARI SCOTT. GOOD EVENING. I’M JACKSON KURTZ. HE DIED TUESDAY NIGHT AFTER HE ACCIDENTALLY SHOT HIMSELF. IT HAPPENED ON 51ST STREET IN EASTWOOD. TRAFFIC WAY ON KANSAS CITY’S EAST SIDE. KMBC NINE’S PEYTON HEADLEE HAS A LOOK ON HOW FRIENDS AND FAMILY HOPE HE’LL BE REMEMBERED. OPERATION BREAKTHROUGH IS WHERE FIVE YEAR OLD MARI SCOTT CAME FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. ON SATURDAY, IT’S WHERE FRIENDS AND FAMILY CAME TOGETHER TO REMEMBER HIS LIFE. WE WERE ALL TOUCHED BY THIS LAW. IT’S HARD TO PUT INTO WORDS WHAT A LOSS LIKE THIS FEELS LIKE. WE HAD TO KNOW MARI TO KNOW THE TYPE OF IMPACT THAT HE HAD ON PEOPLE. BUT THE IMPACT OF MARI SCOTT, AFTER JUST FIVE YEARS OF LIFE, WAS CLEAR. ON SATURDAY, EVERYBODY KNEW MEMORY. EVERYBODY KNEW MARI. SHE WAS MY HEART TO KNOW THAT EACH AND EVERY LAST ONE OF Y’ALL KNOW HOW INFECTIOUS HIS AMAZING SMILE WAS IN THE PARKING LOT OF OPERATION BREAKTHROUGH, DOZENS CAME DRESSED IN HIS FAVORITE CHARACTER TO REMEMBER HIS CHARACTER AND HIS LIFE. HE WAS AN AMAZING LITTLE BOY WHO WILL BE TRULY, TRULY MISSED. WAS SO SMART, SO SMART BEYOND HIS YEARS. HE WAS SMART, BUT HE WAS LIKE, DIABOLICALLY SMART. YEAH, SO MUCH WISDOM, SO GOOFY. HE MADE HIS PRESENCE KNOWN AND HE WAS LOVED. AND HE LOVED EVERYBODY. HE JUST WAS EVERYTHING THAT YOU COULD EVEN THINK OF. EVERYTHING TO SO MANY. SOME OF HIS BEST FRIENDS WERE KIDS THAT WERE YOUNGER THAN HIM, SO HE HAD A BIG IMPACT ON A LOT OF KIDS AND A LOT OF KIDS LOOKED UP TO HIM. On Saturday, dozens gathered to remember the life of 5-year-old Mari Scott.He died on Tuesday night after he accidentally shot himself. It happened near 51st Street and Eastwood Trafficway on Kansas City's east side.His mother said she hopes he is remembered for his smile and his happiness. “Mari was so smart. So smart beyond his years. He has so much wisdom, so goofy,” Clairissa Allen, Mari’s mother said. “You had to know Mari to know the type of impact that he had on people and the type of person that he was.” After just five years of life, his impact was clear on Saturday. Dozens gathered in the parking lot of Operation Breakthrough, where he went for class for the last two years, to remember his character and his life. "It fills my heart that each and every last one of y’all know how infectious his amazing smile was,” his grandmother said. “He was an amazing little boy who will be truly, truly missed.”Mari attended kindergarten round up the day he died. His teacher said he was very smart and a good friend. “He was smart. Like he was diabolically smart,” his teacher said. “He was a good big brother,” Allen said. “Some of his best friends were kids that were younger than him. So, he had a big impact on a lot of kids and a lot of kids looked up to him."
