Ex-Detroit Lions first-round pick signing with Seattle Seahawks

Laken Tomlinson

Former Lions offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson has found success in San Francisco.

ALLEN PARK -- Laken Tomlinson, a former first-round pick of the Detroit Lions back in 2015, will sign with the Seattle Seahawks, per NFL Network.

The 32-year-old left guard has developed into one of the league’s ironmen since leaving the Lions in 2016 after only two seasons. Tomlinson spent five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, where he never missed a single game and earned his first Pro Bowl nod.

He spent the last two years with the New York Jets, and guess what? Tomlinson started all 34 games while there, as well.

Tomlinson allowed a career-high seven sacks with the Jets last season, not to mention the worst run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus of his career. He joins a youthful offensive line in Seattle with Charles Cross, Abraham Lucas and Olu Oluwatimi, among others.

The Lions previously filled their short-term needs at guard by adding Kevin Zeitler in free agency. They lost Jonah Jackson to a big-money deal with the Los Angeles Rams. But retaining Graham Glasgow and adding Zeitler fills those immediate needs on their daunted O-line.

Adding help to the offensive line remains a popular mock draft pick for the team heading into the event, though. And that’s unlikely to change with Zeitler, 34, coming to town on a one-year deal. Glasgow will be 32 by the time next season rolls around, and stud center Frank Ragnow has been through hell with a long list of injuries he’s played through for the last three years.
