OU football: Sooners cheetah Justin Harrington enters the transfer portal, per reports

OU football's Justin Harrington intends to enter the transfer portal, per reports.

The sixth-year defensive back spent four seasons with OU. On3 first reported the news.

Harrington spent the first two years of his career Bakersfield College, a junior college in California. He then chose OU in 2020 over offers from programs such as Houston and Iowa State.

Harrington redshirted his first season with the Sooners while he nursed a knee injury he suffered at the junior college level. And after having a limited role in the first four games of the 2021 campaign, he entered the transfer portal.

But Harrington rejoined the team the following season and began to carve out a role. He appeared in all 13 games and finished with 23 total tackles and one interception.

Harrington then started at the cheetah position for the first two games of last season, but he suffered a season-ending ACL injury. He applied for a medical exemption waiver and was granted a seventh year of eligibility on March 6.

The loss of Harrington is a big one for OU. The Sooners will now lean on players such as senior Kendel Dolby, junior Dasan McCullough and sophomore Peyton Bowen to fill the void at the cheetah position.

OU will hold its annual spring game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The scrimmage was moved from 1 p.m. due to possible thunderstorms in Norman that day.
