The movie is an English-language interpretation of the Akira Kurosawa film High and Low, which was released in 1963.
The original film was based on the 1959 book King's Ransom by Ed McBain.
It's about a businessman who has to pay a ransom to kidnappers, leading him to ruin.
The High and Low film is developed and produced by A24, Mandalay Pictures and Escape Artists, per the outlet.
The script was penned by Spike and Alan Fox.
The movie is the fifth time Spike and Denzel have worked together.
