Dakota Johnson Has a Very Unique Explanation for Why She’s ‘So Open’ to Being a Mom One Day

Motherhood might be in the cards for Dakota Johnson one day, and if so, the 34-year-old is “totally down” for it. The Madame Web star opened up about her complex feelings on potentially becoming a mom in a new interview, and her unique reasoning really makes you think.

When asked how she feels about motherhood, Johnson told Bustle, “I’m so open to that.” She explained, “I’ve gotten to this place where I really want to experience everything that life has to offer. And especially being a woman, I’m like, What a magical f*cking thing to do. What a crazy, magical, wild experience. If that’s meant to happen for me, I’m totally down for it.”

The TeaTime Book Club founder talked about motherhood almost like it was something to check off her bucket list. “I’ve been really tripping out recently like, we’re not here for very long. There’s so much to eat up and learn and grow from and experience and feel,” she told the outlet. “That includes all the pain and the suffering and feeling so helpless about the world.”

When she thinks about the bigger picture of life, Johnson feels terrible. “Most days I feel like the most useless piece of sh*t,” she continued. “I’m sitting in this dumb*ss chair, talking about this dumb*ss movie, and there are people in excruciating catastrophes, and what can I do? I do have that incredible friction in myself.”

She added, “And then I’m like, We’re not here for very long, so if I’m meant to be a mother, bring it on.”

On Being a Stepmom

Hmm … that’s definitely an interesting take. Although, raising kids isn’t totally hypothetical for the Daddio actress. She lives a secluded life in Malibu — “I need to be in nature. I can be out at my house and not see or speak to another human for days on end, and I feel wonderful” — with her boyfriend Chris Martin and is a stepmom to his kids Apple, 19, and Moses, 17, who he shares with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.

“I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart,” she gushed.

In the iconic interview, Johnson took pictures with a deer and a goat, talked about cults, and shared how she has always found rules to be “really ridiculous, silly and stupid.”

In the past, the Fifty Shades of Grey star has had to dispel pregnancy rumors after she had a birthday party with pink and blue balloons. “The only thing I’m pregnant with is a lot of really good ideas, but not any babies,” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

In Nov. 2021, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she could relate to her character Nina in The Lost Daughter, who is a struggling mom. “I am not a mother, but I know what it feels like to be scared or to be like, ‘Will I be a good mother?’” she said. “But for some reason, there’s this stigma around talking about that. And there’s a stigma around having just the thought of, ‘What if I walked out that f*cking door? For a week or a minute for a cigarette.’ But you’re not supposed to say that out loud. Why? It’s so human and so relatable.”

These celebs were quick to shut down pregnancy speculation.
