Charles Day Halsey Jr. died peacefully late in the day Good Friday, March 29, 2024, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was 96 years old. 

Born March 14, 1928, in New York City, Charlie grew up in New York City and Rumson. Charlie was an alum of The Browning School, Pomfret School and Princeton University. He enjoyed fishing, playing squash, golf and bridge. In the banking world most of his professional life, Charlie started his career at First National City Bank in New York City, moved to Wells Fargo in Los Angeles and then to Bull & Bear in New York City. 

In 1949, Charlie married Sandra Catesby MacRae at St. James Church in Manhattan. Sandra and Charlie had six children. The eldest died tragically in a car accident when she was 2. His entire life, Charlie carried a photo of Holly in his wallet. 

In 1969, Charlie moved to Los Angeles and married Elizabeth “Betsy” Hendon MacRae, an actress and first cousin of Sandra. A devoted husband, Charlie and Betsy remained married for 55 years. 

Charlie is survived by his wife, Betsy and his brother, Alexander “Sandy” Halsey of Bluffton, South Carolina, formerly from Locust. He is also survived by his children, Terry, Peter, Hugh, Cate and Alex; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many devoted nieces and nephews. 

He was loved for his wry, dry sense of humor and his positive attitude. 

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
