Credit has to go to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. It was disrespectful to think it were a forgone conclusion that they'd lose. Palace always give Liverpool a game, and with Liverpool being out of sorts for weeks, a loss wasn't surprising to most Liverpool fans. As for Arsenal, they've looked cagey for a bit, which is understandable as most of the players haven't experienced crossing that winning line. City have got the T- shirt in dealing with those pressures. If City go on to win, then I don't think it's because of the loss to Villa, but the negative [Arsenal] approach to Man City at the Etihad.

Liverpool and Arsenal are both paid up members of the capitulation club. Arsenal I think are learning the mental strength that Pep Guardiola's teams have and will get better, whereas Liverpool are suffering from a little bit of mercurial Klopp behaviour: announcing at the worst time his departure and overreacting to journalists. I hope for Arsenal fans Arteta stays for a few years and for Liverpool fans a strong minded ruthless winner comes in.

If Arsenal had to play Thursday then Sunday as Villa did, Arteta would be moaning about it. Arsenal had two days more rest and were not good enough against a very good Villa team.

Mary Earps has not had a great season by her extremely high standards. Manchester United are out of the WSL title race and she was on the bench for England's recent win at Republic of Ireland.

  15. Man Utd and Spurs reach Women's FA Cup finalpublished at 08:21 15 April

Another major piece of football news from yesterday is the confirmation there will be a new name on the Women's FA Cup this season.

Chelsea have won it for the last three years, but were beaten at Manchester United 2-1 in their semi-final yesterday.

Lucia Garcia scored after 41 seconds before Rachel Williams added a second. Lauren James pulled one back for the Blues before half time and they laid seige to the United goal in the second half - but to no avail.

United will face Tottenham Hotspur in the final at Wembley, after Spurs came from behind to beat Leicester 2-1 after extra time.

Neither United nor Spurs have won the Women's FA Cup before. One of them will be celebrating on 12 May.

  17. Leverkusen seal first titlepublished at 08:05 15 April

FT: Bayer Leverkusen 5-0 Werder Bremen

On the day the English title was thrown up in the air by challengers falling to shock losses, the German league was sewn up by Bayer Leverkusen.

Victor Boniface's 25th-minute penalty set Leverkusen on their way before Granit Xhaka and Florian Wirtz scored stunning goals in quick succession.

Supporters stormed on to the pitch in mid-match when star man Wirtz added a fourth in the 82nd minute, and again when he completed a hat-trick soon afterwards.

"Obviously, at the start of the season we couldn't have imagined this," said Xhaka, who joined Leverkusen from Arsenal last July.

Wirtz added: "I personally can still not realise this has happened. I will need a few moments in the changing room to understand what we have achieved."

What’s disappointing from an Arsenal fan is conceding four goals in a week. We’ve had a consistently good defence all season and it’s now showing signs of weakening. The Premier League and Champions League is now City’s to lose. City are the best team in the world at the minute. It would be a disappointing season for Arsenal. No trophies again.
