(PORTLAND TRIBUNE) — A Texas-based national provider of drone shows has been selected by Tigard to produce the city’s first-ever performance this Fourth of July.

Sky Elements Drone Shows out of North Richland Hills, Texas, will provide the drones. The $80,000 show is expected to include at least 200 of the unmanned small aircraft, which will perform around the area of Tigard High School.

At the same time, the city will collaborate with the drone company to come up with a specific program.

“This will ensure some very Tigard-specific elements of the show. We expect the show to last between 10 to 15 minutes,” said Kent Wyatt, a city spokesperson.

Citing concerns about fires, loud noises scaring both people and pets, and environmental concerns, the Tigard City Council agreed in February to an inaugural drone show in lieu of the city’s traditional fireworks display.
