WATCH: U.S. Coast Guard airlifts pregnant woman off Disney cruise after 'health complications'
A pregnant woman was taken off a Disney cruise ship on Monday via medevac after she experienced health complications.According to the United States Coast Guard, a Jayhawk helicopter aircrew left a station in Miami to conduct a medevac for a Disney Fantasy cruise ship passenger who was traveling 180 miles northwest of Puerto Rico. The 35-year-old pregnant woman was having health complications and required a higher level of medical care ashore, the Coast Guard said. On the scene, the aircrew deployed their rescue swimmer who prepared a rescue basket and litter once they were aboard the ship. The woman and the cruise ship doctor were then hoisted onto the aircraft. The woman was transported to the Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan, then emergency personnel transported the woman to the local "Centro Medico" Hospital.“We are glad everything came together to help this passenger,” said Ensign Michael Riccio, Coast Guard Sector San Juan operations unit leader for the case. “The competency displayed by the Disney Fantasy crew and the Coast Guard personnel and units involved made all the difference.”The woman's current condition is not immediately known.
