I-Team: Video shows fight outside East Tech, where parent had gun

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Video released to the FOX 8 I-Team shows more violence outside a local school, and it involved yet another parent with a gun on campus.

We’ve found more and more parents with guns at Cleveland schools, and a leading school safety consultant says that falls in line with a national trend.

The new video just released comes from an incident in February outside East Tech High School in Cleveland.

Woman shoots husband after he was caught cheating: Report

You see officers and kids running to a fight, and in the middle of chaos that afternoon, a parent was arrested with a gun.

The video shows a woman tell police, “My daughter is the one that she pulled the gun out on. My kids calling me in fear for they life. This lady about to shoot us.”

Investigators said teen girls started fighting, and a mom showed up with a gun.

The parent seen speaking to police continued, “So, I came up like this. Who’s fittin’ to shoot who? You’re gonna have to shoot me. And she’s a grown mother up here.”

We also recently showed you a mom stopped with a gun at a checkpoint inside a Cleveland elementary school.

Just months ago, we discovered a gun had been reported at another city school as adults dropped kids off.

From Cleveland, Ken Trump runs National School Safety and Security Services, a consulting firm that’s active around the country.

“We can’t expect to raise the behavior of children when the parent behavior is in the gutter,” he said.

He told us seeing parents at schools with guns is part of a national trend.

“Nationally, we’re seeing an uptick in parents taking situations into their own hands, often with weapons in those hands, and bringing it on to schoolyard grounds, and even in to schools,” Trump said.

We also looked at what’s happening in court.

A grand jury decided on no charges in the case of the woman who said she’d been threatened with a gun in a school parking lot.

But the parent in the latest case has been indicted. The parent stopped with a gun at an elementary school late last year also has been indicted. Both women have entered pleas of not guilty.

Back to the latest local incident: A report shows at the time of a fight outside the school, a parent had a gun and started to pull it out. The mother told investigators she had the gun for protection while riding the bus.

Now, sorting out trouble at schools doesn’t just involve kids.

No guns allowed, but that often does not stop adults.
