A male 15-year-old from Lawrence is facing a slew of charges in connection with a car chase during which Massachusetts State Police pursued a stolen Lexus through several MetroWest towns Monday afternoon, according to state police.

The teen was the driver of the stolen Lexus IS involved in the chase, state police said Tuesday. He is facing charges of leaving the scene of a car crash causing property damage, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes and breakdown lane violation.

The teen was released to his mother on Monday after being booked at state police barracks, state police said. He was due to be arraigned Tuesday in Worcester Juvenile Court.

Two other people who were passengers in the Lexus are also facing charges in connection with the chase, state police said.

One is 20-year-old Fitchburg resident Kyan Perez, who has been charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, according to state police. He was initially identified as 21-year-old Methuen resident Ibrahim Hasbum, but state police spokesperson Dave Procopio later issued an update saying that Perez had misidentified himself to police and would be further charged with providing a false name to police.

Additionally, Beverly police plan to charge Perez with two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle and one count each of receiving a stolen motor vehicle and receiving stolen property (a credit card) for crimes committed on April 17 and 21, state police said. He was held without bail overnight and was due to be arraigned Tuesday.

A 20-year-old Danvers woman was also charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle in connection with the chace, state police said. The department chose not to release her name, as she was not arrested and will be receiving a summons instead.

The chase began on April 22 around 2 p.m. when a state police helicopter noticed the Lexus and began following it as it drove through Ashland, state police said previously. The car had been stolen in Peabody, and the driver had already eluded officers from several MetroWest police departments.

Troopers in the helicopter informed those on the ground that the Lexus was traveling west on Route 9, leading to a car chase through several towns, state police said previously. The troopers eventually set up stop sticks near I-290 west in Marlborough, and when the stolen car hit them, it crashed into another vehicle before coming to rest in the median.

Footage of the chase and crash released by state police shows the white Lexus hit the stop sticks and then fly leftward across all three lanes of I-290 into the median. As the car slides across the highway, it appears to almost hit a dark-colored vehicle before just barely scraping a white car and forcing it into the median.

Numerous troopers converged on the Lexus and “secured” the driver and his two passengers, state police said previously. No one in the vehicle that was hit was injured during the crash.

Hasbun and the Danvers woman were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, state police said. They were later released.

State police later learned that the Lexus had been involved in a prior crash. It is unclear if any of the three people facing charges in connection with the car chase were involved in that crash.
