The Recycling Control Commission (RCC), that provides Washburn and Burnett counties with recycling services, is set to open a new Midtown Road Recycling location in the Town of Meenon. In 2023 the RCC was no longer able to accept recyclable materials at the Midtown transfer station as a result of a provider change. The RCC has been working in cooperation with the local units of government and other community organizations over the last year to create a new site for residents to recycle their household waste. On Tuesday April 23, 2024, a new RCC household recycling site will open just East of the Midtown Transfer Station on Midtown Road. The site will be open on Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. This recycling site will accept #1, #2, and #5 plastic containers, glass containers, aluminum, steel, and tin food grade cans, paper, and cardboard. The RCC asks that residents follow the Waste Management recycling guidelines when using the site. There will not be an area to dispose of your plastic bags at the new site, so please collect your recyclables in a reusable container. For any questions or more information on what is and is not recyclable please contact Northwest Regional Planning Commission. This site is only open to residents. No commercial business use of the facility will be allowed.
