Suspect hospitalized following shooting with Spokane Police near Shadle Park High School

SPD said three officers were involved in the shooting and have all been placed on leave.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A suspect has been hospitalized following a shooting with Spokane Police officers near Shadle Park High School Thursday.

According to police, the incident started as a dispute between the suspect and a tow truck driver. Officers said the suspect pulled out a knife and a gun before firing. Police say initial information indicated the victim was attempting to repossess the suspect's vehicle. Following a shot being fired, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

Investigators identified the suspect who is a prior felon which would prohibit him from carrying or possessing a gun.

A little later, officers were told the suspect may be in or near Shadle Park. At 6:14 p.m., officers were advised the suspect was running in Shadle Park heading south in the general direction of a baseball game being played at Shadle Park High School. Within a minute, shots had been fired.

The following Ring Camera video shows a family playing at their home the moment shots were fired by Spokane Police:

Three officers fired their weapons hitting the suspect multiple times. A handgun was found on the ground near the suspect.

Officers provided initial medical care to the suspect, who was eventually taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. At this time, law enforcement officials confirmed that he is expected to recover.

All three officers involved in the shooting have all been placed on leave. They have been identified as Officer Matthew Stewart, Officer Samuel Canty and Officer Joshua Stewart.
