FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A man has been reunited with his lost cat after nine days and it’s all thanks to a microchip.

According to a Facebook post from Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control (FWACC), Snowball was lost on March 26, but his dad reported him missing from his microchip account and with FWACC. Due to his report, when a local woman caught Snowball in her community cat trap and brought him into FWACC to get his microchip scanned, Snowball was able to be reunited with his family.

“You never know when your animal can escape,” Abigail Reyes, Community Relations & Education Specialist with FWAC. “We want to make sure that every pet that comes in as a stray, we find their loving owners.”

Reyes said she always recommends microchipping your animals to help with the identification process and allow those animals to return back to their families after being lost.

For those wanting to microchip their pets, FWACC offers microchipping services for only $15 Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you are unsure of your pet’s microchip status or need to update information connected to the microchip, you can head to FWACC’s website.
