More than 200 runners, throwers and jumpers to watch this YAIAA track and field season

If last year is any indication, YAIAA track and field athletes could make quite a postseason medal haul this season.

Especially on the girls' side.

York-Adams girls returning for another season in 2024 brought home six individual District 3 titles among 11 top-three finishes last year. The next week they captured four state titles and a silver. The returning boys brought in three District 3 top-three medals.

Spring Grove senior Laila Campbell has never lost a high school district or PIAA meet race in the 100 or 200. If that continues, and the LSU recruit finishes with eight individual gold medals, she will tie McDowell's Sheena Gordon and Girard College's Thelma Davies for third on the girls' list of most state gold. Merion Mercy's Tiffany Abney heads the list with 10 titles and Methacton's Ryann Kraiss is second with nine.

Campbell holds District 3 Class 3A records in both races and the PIAA record for the 100. She nearly broke the 200 record last year.

Spring Grove sophomore Ella Bahn capped off her first high school season with four league meet titles, district titles in both hurdles and high jump and a state title in the 300 hurdles. She finished fifth in the high jump at states.

The Rocket pair combined for 34 points, which put Spring Grove fifth in the team standings.

The fourth state title came from Bermudian Springs junior Lily Carlson, who won Class 2A pole vault gold after finishing second in the district meet. She also took third in the hurdles in the district meet. Teammate Alison Watts claimed a District 3 title in the high jump and finished second in the long and triple jumps. The senior won long jump silver and finished eighth in the triple at states.

Red Lion's Dain Strausbaugh is one of the top returning finisher on the boys' side. The senior captured silver in the District 3 Class 3A 200 meters and was sixth in the 100.

South Western senior Jackson Hersh is the other returning district silver medalist. The league javelin champ also finished 12th at states.

Garreth Calder rounds out the top returning boys' track and field athlete. The Northeastern sophomore finished third in the District 3 Class 3A long jump last year.

There is plenty of additional returning track and field talent to push these medalists and attempt their own medal hauls.
