ALMA, Mich. (WJRT) - Alma College announced that the president, Jeff Abernathy, will step down following the 2024-25 academic year.
Abernathy has shared his plan with the campus community and the Board of Trustees. He has been in the position for the last 14 years.
Following Abarnathy's last day on June 30, 2025, he will go on a one-year sabbatical before returning as an English professor to end his career. He adds that he has always intended to end his career as an English professor.
Under Abarnathy's tenure, the college introduced 27 new undergraduate programs and its first-ever graduate program. There are now 30 different sports teams.
The Board of Trustees will begin the search for the 14th president of Alma College in the fall of 2024.
