AN elderly woman has died after a crash near a large park.

The collision happened just before 4pm on Tuesday in Eccup Lane, in Leeds, at its junction with King Lane, which is close to popular walking and beauty spot Golden Acre Park.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said a blue Jaguar X-Type car was travelling along the road when it was in collision with the rear of a white Ford Transit.

This caused minor damage.

The driver of the Jaguar, a woman in her eighties, was rushed to hospital after suffering "what was believed to be a medical episode", according to the spokesperson.

She died there a short time later.

The spokesperson said no other injuries were reported.

Roads Policing officers are investigating the crash and have launched an appeal for witnesses and information. 

Anyone who saw the crash, has dash cam footage, witnessed what happened before the collision, or who has any information at all that they think might help should contact police.

"Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Leeds.  

"At just before 4pm yesterday (Tuesday), a blue Jaguar X-Type car was travelling along Eccup Lane when it was in collision with the rear of a white Ford Transit van at the junction with King Lane, causing minor damage.  

"The driver of the X-Type, a woman in her eighties, was taken to hospital after suffering what was believed to be a medical episode, and sadly passed away there a short time later.

"No other injuries were reported.  

"Roads Policing officers are investigating this collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dash cam footage which may assist to contact them.
