With the calendar turning to May this week, we've reached some stability atop the World Series odds board.
MLB odds still favor preseason powerhouses like the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves while AL East stalwarts like the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles are rising in stature.
Let's take a look at the latest World Series odds with the first month of the MLB season nearly in the books.
World Series winner odds
Favorites to win 2024 World Series
Los Angeles Dodgers (+350 to +360)
The Los Angeles Dodgers still don't look like the unstoppable behemoth that many projected them to be before Opening Day, but they have righted the ship a bit since a late-April swoon.
They swept the Washington Nationals, took two of three from the Toronto Blue Jays, and won six of their last seven. They open a three-game set in Phoenix against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday before returning home to face the Atlanta Braves over the weekend.
Shohei Ohtani played the villain in Toronto, cracking a home run in his first at-bat after hearing boos from the Rogers Centre crowd. He only went 2-for-13 in the three-game set, but that was enough punctuation to put on the supposed runner-up in last winter's Ohtani sweepstakes.
Atlanta Braves (+380 to +470)
The Atlanta Braves have the best record in the National League and only lead the NL East by 1.5 games thanks to how well the Philadelphia Phillies are playing. Still, they own the best run differential in baseball and the offense hasn't fully rounded into form. After leading MLB in home runs by a wide margin in 2023, the Braves sit tied for 14th with 29.
Marcell Ozuna paced the Senior Circuit with nine homers and Travis d'Arnaud is second on the team with five, all of which came over a four-game span. No one else has more than three, including Matt Olson, Austin Riley, and Ronald Acuna Jr., all of whom finished with 37+ long balls in 2023.
That the Braves are still this good without hitting their power ceiling should be a warning sign to the rest of the league. The sleeping giant hasn't fully awakened.
Before traveling to California to face the Dodgers this weekend, the Braves are stopping off in Seattle for a three-game set against the AL West-leading Mariners.
New York Yankees (+600 to +800)
The New York Yankees open a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday in one of the most exciting showdowns of the young season as only one game separates the rivals in the standings.
After dropping the first game of this past weekend's series against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Yankees scored 15 runs in back-to-back games, outscoring the Brew Crew 30-8. That's the kind of energy they're bringing to Charm City. Still, it will be a big test as reigning AL Rookie of the Year Gunnar Henderson is on a heater with nine homers on the year entering the week.
Still, Juan Soto is humming and Anthony Volpe looks like the budding star people expected at the onset of 2023. Anthony Rizzo's bat has come alive, too, as he went 7-for-8 with two home runs, six runs scored, and four RBI in the last two games.
After the Baltimore series, the Yankees return to the Bronx to host the Detroit Tigers.
Team to watch
Minnesota Twins (+2,500 to +3,000)
May this serve as a reminder that you shouldn't write a team off before the end of the first month. The Minnesota Twins started horrendously, opening with a 7-13 record, at risk of besting only the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central standings. Well, since that low point, the Twinkies have rattled off seven straight wins and are starting to look more like the team that was favored to win the division before Opening Day.
Now, the Twins are still in fourth, but that hole they dug is almost entirely filled in. This offense hacks. Edouard Julien, Willi Castro, and Byron Buxton each own strikeout rates north of 31%. But they've been productive of late. Julien leads the team in home runs with seven and Buxton is starting to look sharper at the plate. Carlos Correa is rejoining the team from a brief stint on the IL and if Royce Lewis can eventually rejoin a competitive squad, look out.
The starting pitching has been fine, if unspectacular on the surface. Both Joe Ryan and Pablo Lopez have better peripherals than ERA, and Bailey Ober's numbers are still inflated from a disastrous first outing. The bullpen could also get reinforcements soon with closer Jhoan Duran nearing a return.
The Twins are +205 to win the AL Central at DraftKings if you're not confident in the perennial playoff disappointment.
They play the White Sox in Chicago before hosting the Boston Red Sox for three this weekend.

How to read MLB World Series futures odds
Sportsbooks will post World Series futures as soon as the previous season concludes, and some even sooner. These betting boards are constantly adjusted throughout the winter and ensuing season as players get hurt or are traded. Once the regular season begins, World Series odds will change daily as teams win and lose games, and as more players are injured or traded. Sportsbooks will also adjust the World Series odds based on handle and liability to certain teams.
World Series odds will usually look like this:
- Los Angeles Dodgers +240
This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to win $240 if the Dodgers win the World Series. If it's close to the end of the season or MLB has a very dominant team, you could see a minus sign (-) ahead of a team's odds.
- Atlanta Braves -150
This means that if you bet on the Atlanta Braves during the 2020 MLB season, you would have needed to bet $150 to profit $100 if the Braves won the championship.
Above we have posted the American odds for the World Series. However, these are easy to convert to decimal odds or fractional odds with our odds converter tool.

The Texas Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games to win the 2023 World Series.
The World Series has been a best-of-seven series with a 2-3-2 format since 1922.

The cash-strapped Florida Marlins entered the 2003 season with +7,500 odds to win it all after finishing four games below .500 the year before. Oddsmakers seemed to be right as the club got off to a sluggish 16-22 start, but a managerial change and some inspired play led to a second half surge and the Fish downed the heavily-favored Yankees in six games in the Fall Classic.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have the best odds to win the 2024 World Series, followed by the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Houston Astros.
