Henderson County sheriff's deputies responded to a disturbance just after 6 p.m. Saturday at the North Mills River Campground. Callers said the man had a gun and was threatening people.After law enforcement officers arrived, they chased the suspect, who crashed his van. Deputies say shots were fired from the vehicle, which led to an exchange of gunfire with deputies on the scene. Per protocol, the deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave. The North Carolina SBI has been notified and is currently conducting an investigation.
