14th Annual Taste of Cardiff

Cardiff 101 Main Street presents the 14th Annual Taste of Cardiff on Thursday, May 2, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Join the event to savor the distinctive culinary delights and handcrafted beverages that define Cardiff-by-the-Sea’s vibrant community. This year, the event will offer an expanded array of restaurants and libations. Plus, returning will be the beloved Rooftop Libation Lounge at the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Lodge, promising an evening of delectable food, refreshing drinks, and live music under the stars.

Winning roses, music and more at Del Mar Library

Del Mar Rose Society will team up with Del Mar Friends of the Library to celebrate Rose Week and Shakespeare, filling the Del Mar Library with roses (judged on Thursday, April 25 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m.).

On Friday, April 26, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., winning roses will be on display and a Classical Guitar Concert will be held at 11 a.m. On Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m.-noon, winning roses will be on display and a DIY adult craft activity held: Paper flowers at 11 a.m.

Del Mar Plaza’s current Seaside Sessions series features local musicians

As of April 6 through the summer Del Mar Plaza is hosting local musicians from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. every Thursday and Saturday to fill the plaza air with delightful tunes.

Located on the Plaza level at the Ocean View Deck, which boasts panoramic views of the coastline, guests can catch a front-row view of the artists and sunset from one of the cozy lounge chairs and couches or listen to the music travel through the plaza while visiting trendy shops, including Urban Girl, Seaside Biscuit, and Sunset Sunglass, or dining at one of Del Mar Plaza’s restaurants including hotspots Monarch Ocean Pub, Tamarindo Del Mar, Pacifica Del Mar, and Il Fornaio.

Help save lives: Blood drive to be held in Solana Beach

The mobile unit of the San Diego Blood Bank will be at St. James Church in Solana Beach on Sunday, May 5, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. to receive blood donations.

The San Diego Blood Bank donations serve more than 30 hospitals in Southern California, including Rady Children’s Hospital, Sharp HealthCare, and City of Hope. One pint can save up to three lives.

Batiquitos Lagoon presentation on unique nails and clams

Batiquitos Lagoon will hold a presentation on May 11 at 10 a.m. by Paul Tuskes, PhD, on some of the unique snails and clams living in local coastal lagoons. He will also discuss invasive species from Asia, predators, and changes to possibly expect in underwater diversity based on recent surveys. Museum of Making Music reopens

The Museum of Making Music reopens to the general public April 16 after renovation of its exhibitions. The museum, which originally opened in 2000, offers immersive musical instrument exhibitions along with a studio/classroom area. North Coast Symphony Presents Spring Across America

The North Coast Symphony Orchestra presents Spring Across America, a musical journey, on Saturday, May 11, at 2:30 p.m. at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdelena, Encinitas. The performance includes Mississippi Suite by Ferde Grofe, Yosemite Suite by Daniel Swem and the classic Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland, with its iconic Shaker melody Simple Gifts. The orchestra was founded in 1947 and is conducted by Daniel Swem. Admission: $15 general, $12 seniors/students/military, free for children 18 and under. ‘A conversation on the bipartisan future of climate policy’

“A conversation on the bipartisan future of climate policy” will be held May 16, from 5 p.m.-6:15 p.m., at Malamud Conference Room, Institute of the Americas: 9899 International Lane, La Jolla, 92093.

The discussion will focus on author Benji Backer’s book “The Conservative Environmentalist: Common Sense Solutions for a Sustainable Future.” Backer and moderator David G. Victor will discuss the book’s findings and look at the larger debate around the future of climate policy in the U.S.

The event is hosted by Deep Decarbonization Initiative at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy.

North Coast Repertory Theatre to present one-woman show ‘TEA FOR THREE: Lady Bird, Pat & Betty’

Three former First Ladies will be sharing secrets in the vivid one-woman show “TEA FOR THREE: Lady Bird, Pat & Betty” at North Coast Repertory Theatre.

Written by Eric H. Weinberger and Elaine Bromka, and starring the Emmy Award-winning Elaine Bromka, the play is a witty and intimate re-imagining of three women who suddenly found themselves celebrities— a behind-the-scenes look at Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon, and Betty Ford, revealing the personal cost of what Mrs. Nixon called the “hardest unpaid job in the world.”

Weaving in the presidents, social change and politics of the time in a way that appeals to all audience members, Tea for Three has been critically acclaimed for its blend of humor and passion.

Meet the Chefs event benefits Casa de Amparo

The 27th Annual Meet the Chefs event will be held Sunday, April 28 at the Hilton Del Mar to benefit Casa de Amparo and its mission to treat and prevent child abuse and neglect. A VIP reception will be held from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. and Chef’s Tasting will be held from 2:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Pacific Building Group Charity Golf Tournament to be held in RSF

Feeding San Diego, a leading hunger-relief and food rescue organization, will be the beneficiary of a new charitable golf tournament happening this spring in Rancho Santa Fe, according to a news release.

The Pacific Building Group Charity Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, May 6, at The Crosby Club at Rancho Santa Fe and will include a day of exclusive golf, delicious food and drinks, and an auction and raffle—all to raise funds for the nonprofit organization’s critical hunger-relief and food rescue programs that provide more than 35 million meals across San Diego County every year.

The Beach and Country Guild and United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego will co-host “Livin’ to the Maxx -80s Party” Tuesday, May 7 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. Rock out and flash back to the ‘80s with live entertainment from BETAMAXX.

39th Annual Encinitas Spring Street Fair

The 39th Annual Encinitas Spring Street Fair, sponsored by Ting Internet, returns to downtown Encinitas on Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Coast Hwy 101 will be closed from D Street to J Street, from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m., to make room for more than 450 vendors, plus a Beer Garden, three stages, and kids’ rides, along this award-winning main street, according to a news release.

The Beer Garden will be open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Stop by to try beer, wine, hard kombucha, and more from local breweries and wineries. The beer garden is family and pet friendly, and will feature the event’s main entertainment stage where several bands will be performing throughout the day. Bands will also be performing at the Lumberyard Courtyard stage and up-and-coming stars will entertain crowds at the Hansen’s Community Stage.

Electra Bike is sponsoring the free bike valet service at each end of the festival, so cyclists arriving at D Street or J Street can leave their ride in a secure spot while enjoying the festival.
