YOU. LIZ. THANKS FOR BRINGING THAT OUT. AND A SOUTHWEST AIRLINES FLIGHT FROM SAINT LOUIS TO SACRAMENTO HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING TODAY AFTER A PROBLEM WITH ONE OF THE PLANE’S ENGINES. PASSENGER CAROL ECKERY TOOK A PICTURE FOR US THERE, AND SHE WAS ON THE PLANE WITH HER HUSBAND, KEVIN ECKERY. CAROL WAS SITTING IN THE WINDOW SEAT NEAR THE ENGINE WHEN SHE HEARD THE PROBLEM. WE HEARD JUST THIS LOUD BOOM AND IT ROCKED THE PLANE A LITTLE BIT AND I WAS WE WERE SITTING IN AN EXIT ROW AND, UM, YOU KNOW, SO AND IT WAS A LOUD BOOM, BUT EVERYBODY REMAINED TOTALLY CALM. IT WAS ALL SMOOTH. WE GOT TO THE END OF THE RUNWAY. WE WAITED FOR THE SAINT LOUIS FIRE DEPARTMENT TO TO INSPECT THE BRAKES AND MAKE SURE THAT THERE WERE NO FLAMES. AND AND IT WAS FINE. WELL, IT TOOK A LITTLE MORE THAN A HALF HOUR FOR THE PLANE TO RETURN TO THE AIRPORT. NO ONE WAS HURT. SOUTHWEST BOOKED PASSENGERS ON OTHER FLIGHTS. THE KCRA 3’

A Sacramento-bound Southwest Airlines flight was diverted back to the St. Louis airport on Friday. Passengers and Air Traffic Control audio said the plane landed safely after an issue with an engine.Flight Aware info for Flight 5907 showed the Boeing 737-800 departed from St. Louis Lambert International Airport at 2:52 p.m. CT and landed back at the airport 37 minutes later. The pilot reported an engine failure on the left side and safely returned to land, according to Air Traffic Control audio from liveatc.net. Carol Dahmen-Eckery was on the plane with her husband Kevin Eckery and sitting in a window seat near the engine when she heard a “loud boom.”“It rocked the plane a little bit and we were sitting in an exit row,” she told KCRA 3. “It was a loud boom but everybody remained calm.” Kevin Eckery said that after the plane landed passengers waited for fire crews to inspect the brakes “and make sure there were no flames and it was fine.”They expect to return to Sacramento later on Friday. Southwest Airlines released this statement: "Southwest Airlines flight 5907 from St. Louis to Sacramento returned to St. Louis shortly after taking off to check out a potential mechanical issue. The aircraft is being taken out of service for review. Our Customers are being accommodated on a different aircraft, and will continue to Sacramento.
