Turnout again topped 1,000 Tuesday in Erie County’s fourth day of early voting for the April 30 special election in the 26th Congressional District.
Elections Commissioners Ralph M. Mohr and Jeremy J. Zellner reported that 1,218 ballots were cast, bringing the adjusted four-day total to 4,709.
State Sen. Tim Kennedy, a Buffalo Democrat, enjoys a 2-1 enrollment advantage over Republican Gary Dickson in the April 30 special election in New York's 26th Congressional District. But Kennedy enjoys a much bigger financial advantage.
Candidates in the special election are West Seneca Supervisor Gary Dickson, who has Republican and Conservative endorsements, and State Sen. Timothy M. Kennedy, who appears on the Democratic and Working Families lines.
The winner will fill the unexpired term of Rep. Brian Higgins, who left the House of Representatives on Feb. 2 to become president of Shea’s Performing Arts Center.
Only residents of the 26th Congressional District are eligible to vote in the special election. In Erie County, the district includes the cities of Buffalo and Tonawanda, and the towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga, Grand Island, Tonawanda and part of West Seneca.
