Granville graduate Lamb places second in NCAA championships

Granville graduate Claire Lamb nearly put a championship cap to a perfect senior season.

Lamb, a star at Otterbein, earned runner-up honors Saturday during the NCAA Division III national championships at Wisconsin-Oskhosh. Lamb placed second in the 8,000-meter race in a time of 20:58.7, finishing behind Washington University's Paige Lawler, who ran 20:55.0.

Lamb's previous best finish in the national championships was 22nd last season. She won her previous six races this season, earning Great Lakes Region Runner of the Year honors.

Lamb led the Cardinals to a 23rd-place finish in the team standings.

Watkins Memorial graduate Hastings Marek, a sophomore at Baldwin-Wallace, finished 188th in 23:11.1.

In the Division I men's race at Wisconsin, Watkins graduate Andrew Jordan finished 46th in 30:05.1 Jordan helped Iowa State finish seventh in the team standings, giving the Cyclones back-to-back top 10 finishes.

Newark graduate Toby Hardwick, a senior transfer at Florida State, finished 220th in 32:07.66.
