Ashibah Talks Three Recommendations In Her Danish Hometown

Following

Ashibah is a self-taught deejay, composer, producer and singer-songwriter inspired by her rich cultural heritage. The LGBTQI+ artist hails from Denmark with roots in Cairo, Egypt, where she lived up until 19-years-old before relocating to Brazil and returning to her Danish hometown. On Tuesday, Oct. 18, she released her You May Forget EP.

The three-track body of work features everything from shimmering synths to enchanting vocals, angelic bass, percolating beats and more.

The artist frequently returns to her second hometown in Brazil, playing tours alongside the likes of Vintage Culture and Claptone. She is also set to play the L'Occitane Theater with renowned producer Peggy Gou later this year. The burgeoning artist is breaking through the standard house music mold with her fresh approach to music as well as adding her own vocals into deejay sets and production. In addition, she has earned Beatport chart toppers with Nora En Pure, Vintage Culture and more.

Ashibah is known for more than her work in music: she is the youngest person to ever play on the Egyptian National Basketball team, while also earning a black belt in karate and becoming a zoo keeper. Indeed, the breakthrough artist has proven to be multifaceted.

Here, Ashibah shares with Forbes her guide to her hometown in Denmark.

Risteriet Coffee

“I am obsessed with two things, and that’s synthesizers and coffee. So I wanted to take you to my favorite coffee spot in the city that I visit pretty much every day on my way to the studio. Risteriet has some of the best roasts I have tried—they have their own roastery in the city so you won’t find fresher coffee. Not only do they sell incredible coffee and fresh bakes, but you can also buy all kinds of gear for your home setup.”

Banegaarden

“This is a real hidden gem. A green oasis where you can take a breath from the noise of the city, enjoy nature in the heart of Copenhagen and eat phenomenal food. My studio is situated minutes from it, so it’s the perfect spot for when I need a break and a bite. The bakery, Perron, has one of the most legendary cardamom buns you will ever taste—absolutely worth the trip. I always feel refreshed and full of energy after a trip to Banegaarden.”

Nikolaj Storm Store

“Copenhagen is full of great design and chic boutiques. I love supporting local brands, so when I came across Nikolaj Storm, I was over the moon. Nikolaj Storm is genderless streetwear full of color and edge. He likes to challenge the norms in every way and I can really relate to that. Before any tour or show, he is my first visit to see what his new pieces look like. His store is situated in the heart of the city next to the beautiful King’s Garden, a great spot for a break after all the shopping.”
