Driver runs red light, hits N.J. school bus with 6 students on board, cops say

None of the six students aboard a small school bus were badly hurt after a 19-year-old driver went through a red light and collided with the bus Friday afternoon in Montgomery, authorities said.

Montgomery police issued the 19-year-old driver of the car summonses for carless driving and disregard of a traffic control device following the 3 p.m. crash at the corner of County Route 601 and Skillman Road, officials said.

The bus then struck a traffic light at the southwest corner of the intersection.

The Montgomery resident behind the wheel of the car was driving west on Skillman Road when he didn’t stop at the red light, police said.

All six Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School students and both drivers were treated at the scene and declined to be brought to hospitals, police said. The school is in Bridgewater.
