Purdue Women's Basketball adds another transfer to its roster

  • 0

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (PURDUE SPORTS) – A familiar name will be back on the Purdue women's basketball team's roster next season, as head coach Katie Gearlds welcomed transfer Mahri Petree to the program. Petree will have one season of eligibility remaining following three years at UTEP and two seasons at Bradley.

Mahri Petree is the younger sister of Lasha Petree, who led Purdue in scoring and helped guide the Boilermakers back to the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23 during her one season in West Lafayette. While not on the roster together, Lasha and Mahri Petree will become the fourth sister tandem to play for Purdue.

Petree has appeared in 118 games over five seasons averaging 6.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. She appeared in 60 games with 30 starts for the Miners with 7.0 points and 3.2 rebounds while shooting just under 40% from the field.

She has reached the postseason twice, including taking Bradley to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history in 2021.

Last season, Petree appeared in 31 games with 24 starts for the Miners. She averaged 8.3 points and 3.7 rebounds on the year. She was one of four players to average 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game in Conference USA play last year.

She posted 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game before injury cut short her 2022-23 campaign.

Petree transferred to UTEP following two strong seasons at Bradley alongside her sister Lasha. Mahri was tabbed to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team after tallying 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.

Petree played her high school ball at Arbor Prep, where she was a two-time All-State honoree and guided the Gators to a 2016 MHSAA State Championship, two other finals appearances and a state semifinal game.

The 2023-24 Purdue women's basketball season is presented by Purdue Global, Purdue University's online educational solution for working adults.
