Benefits enrollment assistance brought by HealthWise Hinton for residents of West Virginia

HINTON, WV (WVNS) — Residents living in the Hinton area are invited to a daylong event that is focused on helping families in the community stay healthy and thrive.

DoHS and WVDE plan for start of Summer EBT Program for residents of the Mountain State

The event is sponsored by the REACHH-Family Resource Center and will provide services to help the local communities. The services are free or low-cost to those eligible.

This is the first of its kind program in the Mountain State. It is a person-centered benefits enrollment program that can have people from the community speak with professionals about helpful services they can possibly be eligible for and help guide them through the enrollment process.

This event will be April 25, 2024 from 11:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Historic Hinton Freight Depot.

“Sometimes people have no idea if they’re eligible for a program and don’t know who to talk to—like for health insurance, housing, child care, or food assistance. They may call a program office, and the person on the phone can’t answer their questions. Sometimes organizations hold a health fair or outreach event and expect people to share personal financial information in front of strangers, which isn’t safe,” said Kelli Caseman, a coordinator for the event and director of the nonprofit Think Kids.

“We’re piloting a one-stop shop event where people can talk to professionals from these federal, state, and local programs who want to enroll and support individuals to be healthy,” Caseman continued.

People can come schedule appointments with experts who can take the time to ensure that they cater to their needs and give them correct information. People can still get the same type of of treatment even without an appointment.
