Today marks the celebration of "Star Wars Day," observed annually on May the Fourth, a nod to the iconic phrase, "May the Force be with you."

Star Wars fans gathered at the Ferguson Farmers Market to celebrate this beloved film series. The day's festivities included a Jedi Knight show, Jedi training sessions for children, and a performance by the Ritenour High School Band playing music from Star Wars. Over 30 vendors participated, offering a variety of food, drinks, and homemade products.

There was also a family fun area complete with face painting, balloons, a bouncy house, and an attraction called the "Galaxy Space Crawl."

Vacant Granite City workshop destroyed by fire

A building is considered a total loss after it was engulfed by a fire overnight. Firefighters responded to the scene on State Street around 7:20 p.m. Friday. The structure, an old workshop near the U.S. Steel plant, along with everything inside, was completely destroyed. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as the building was vacant at the time of the fire. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.

The day includes your choice of a 1 mile or 3.7 mile walk, snacks, a raffle, and plenty of family-friendly activities.
